Algebra - a branch of mathematics marked chiefly
by the use of symbols to represent numbers.
Algebra is the transition between arithmetic and mathematics. Algebra 1 is the entry way to all other levels of mathematics. Mastery of the subject matter is necessary for later success in both mathematics and science.
Most of the work is done in class in order for the teacher to be able to provide assistance as students work on mastering the principles and techniques in the various aspects of algebra. The use of calculators is encouraged.
Standard Algebra
The Standard Algebra class is a slower paced class which will prepare successful students to take the two semester algebra 1 class at their high school rather than a four semester course. The focus will be on mastering basic algebra skills rather than covering a large amount of material.
Advanced Algebra
The Advanced Algebra class is meant to be the equivalent of a high school algebra course. The goal is for successful students to be able to enter the course which follows Algebra 1 in whichever high school they attend. The course is fast paced and will utilize the more difficult problems in the book.
